MAMBO SESSIONS (1940-1960)

Tito Puente, Machito and a parade of Mambo legends swept  through the Bay Area and inspired audiences and musicians to new heights.   The Macumba club in Chinatown showcased the hot cha-cha-cha and mambos of Cal Tjader and brought together people of all ethnicities . 1959  Pete Escovedo and his Escovedo Brothers sextet  and Benny Velarde Y Su Pachangeros play to packed houses at venues like  Copacabana in North Beach and Sands Ballroom in Oakland.
